These images are simply close-ups of single words on gravestones in English country churchyards. I like the way the gravestones, which perhaps have not been looked at for more than a few seconds in decades or even centuries, are gradually weathering and becoming part of the landscape. I have included the etymology of some of these short words (thanks to the website etymonline.com) - these words were ancient long, long before the people buried beneath the gravestones were born.
